# Find Your Nearest Brazilian Consulate

Complete 2026 directory: locate the Brazilian embassy or consulate with jurisdiction over your country or US state, understand VITEM XIV appointment requirements, and decide whether the consulate route is right for you.

Quick Answer

Jurisdiction is based on where you *live*, not your citizenship. The United States has 9 missions covering different states; Canada has 3. Most consulates use the **ec-\[city\].itamaraty.gov.br** booking portal. If you are already in Brazil, consider the [MigranteWeb route](/blog/migranteweb-guide-brazil-digital-nomad-visa) . It skips the consulate entirely and does not require health insurance.

Last updated: May 2026 30+ missions listed 95%+ approval rate

## Consulate Route vs. MigranteWeb Route

Brazil's VITEM XIV digital nomad visa can be obtained through two entirely different processes. The route you choose affects your timeline, costs, document requirements, and critically, whether you need health insurance.

Health Insurance: Consulate Route vs. MigranteWeb Route

**Consulate route (applying from outside Brazil):** Health insurance is mandatory, minimum $30,000 USD coverage valid in Brazil.

**MigranteWeb route (applying from inside Brazil):** Health insurance is not required in the document checklist. This is a significant advantage for those who can enter Brazil first and apply in-country.

[Read the full MigranteWeb step-by-step guide](/blog/migranteweb-guide-brazil-digital-nomad-visa)

| Factor | Consulate Route(apply from abroad) | MigranteWeb Route(apply inside Brazil) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Health insurance required? | Yes: mandatory ($30k USD min) | No: not required |
| eVisa needed to enter Brazil? | Depends on nationality (see below) | Yes: must enter Brazil legally first |
| Where you apply | Brazilian consulate in your country | Online via MigranteWeb portal |
| In-person appointment required? | Yes: mandatory | No: 100% online |
| Typical processing time | 4–12 weeks (including wait for appt) | 2–8 weeks after submission |
| Government fee | ~$65–$100 USD (varies by consulate) | R$245 (~$45 USD) |
| Best for | Those outside Brazil with a clear timeline | Travelers already in Brazil, or without health insurance |

**Recommendation:** If you can travel to Brazil on a tourist entry (or already have an eVisa), the MigranteWeb in-country route is often faster, cheaper, and eliminates the health insurance requirement. Our lawyers handle both routes. [Read the MigranteWeb guide →](/blog/migranteweb-guide-brazil-digital-nomad-visa)

## eVisa Requirements: Does Your Nationality Need One?

Brazil reinstated eVisa requirements for several nationalities in April 2025. This affects both your ability to enter Brazil for a MigranteWeb application and your planning for the consulate route.

### eVisa Required (since April 2025)

- United States 🇺🇸
- Canada 🇨🇦
- Australia 🇦🇺
- India 🇮🇳
- UAE & Gulf nationals 🇦🇪
- Singapore 🇸🇬

Apply at [evisa.itamaraty.gov.br](https://evisa.itamaraty.gov.br) . Costs ~$80 USD, approved within 3–5 business days.

### No eVisa: Enter Visa-Free

- United Kingdom 🇬🇧
- All EU member states 🇪🇺
- South Africa 🇿🇦
- Japan 🇯🇵
- Portugal 🇵🇹
- Most of Latin America

Citizens of these countries can enter Brazil visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism, making MigranteWeb an attractive option.

eVisa ≠ VITEM XIV

The Brazilian eVisa is a short-stay tourist entry document. It is not the VITEM XIV digital nomad visa. You still need to apply separately for VITEM XIV through either the consulate route or MigranteWeb. The eVisa simply allows you to enter Brazil to begin the MigranteWeb application.

## Brazilian Consulates in the United States

9 missions · US citizens require eVisa to enter Brazil

eVisa required(applies to all US citizens for Brazil entry)

Jurisdiction is strictly enforced in the US

Brazilian consulates in the United States enforce jurisdiction based on your state of residence, not your citizenship or work location. Applying at the wrong consulate, even if it's physically closer, will result in rejection.

| Mission | Address | Jurisdiction (States) | Appointment |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Washington DCEmbassy | 3006 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington DC 20008 | Diplomatic matters; refer to nearest consulate for visas | Book |
| New YorkConsulate General | 1185 Avenue of the Americas, 21st Floor, New York, NY 10036 | NY, NJ, CT, PA, DE, MD | Book |
| MiamiConsulate General | 2601 S Bayshore Dr, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33133 | FL, PR, US Virgin Islands, Bahamas | Book |
| Los AngelesConsulate General | 8484 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 730, Beverly Hills, CA 90211 | CA (south), AZ, HI, NV, UT, ID, MT, WY | Book |
| ChicagoConsulate General | 401 N Michigan Ave, Suite 1850, Chicago, IL 60611 | IL, IN, IA, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, SD, WI | Book |
| AtlantaConsulate General | 3500 Lenox Rd NE, Suite 800, Atlanta, GA 30326 | GA, AL, NC, SC, MS, TN | Book |
| HoustonConsulate General | 1233 W Loop South, Suite 1150, Houston, TX 77027 | TX, AR, LA, OK, NM, KS, CO | Book |

| BostonConsulate General | 20 Park Plaza, Suite 810, Boston, MA 02116 | MA, ME, NH, VT, RI | Book |

\* Appointment availability updates daily. New York and Miami typically have the longest waits (4–8 weeks); Houston and Boston tend to be faster.

## Canada, United Kingdom & Australia

Note: Canadian and Australian citizens require a Brazilian eVisa. UK citizens do not.

| Country | Mission | Address | Jurisdiction | eVisa | Appt. |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Canada | OttawaEmbassy | 450 Wilbrod Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 6M8 | Federal matters; refer to nearest consulate for visas | eVisa required | Book |
| Canada | TorontoConsulate General | 77 Bloor Street West, Suite 1109, Toronto, ON M5S 1M2 | Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan | eVisa required | Book |
| Canada | VancouverConsulate General | 1550 Alberni Street, Suite 605, Vancouver, BC V6G 3C5 | BC, Alberta | eVisa required | Book |
| United Kingdom | LondonConsulate General | 32 Green Street, London W1K 7AT | All UK | No eVisa | Book |
| Australia | CanberraEmbassy | 19 Forster Crescent, Yarralumla, ACT 2600 | Federal matters; refer to Sydney for visas | eVisa required | Book |
| Australia | SydneyConsulate General | Level 13, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney NSW 2000 | All Australia | eVisa required | Book |

**Canadian & Australian applicants:** Obtain your Brazilian eVisa before booking a consulate appointment. The eVisa is issued by Itamaraty's online portal and takes 3–5 business days. Secure it early so it doesn't bottleneck your timeline. UK citizens enter visa-free and can also use MigranteWeb after arrival.

## Brazilian Consulates in Europe

EU, UK, Swiss, and most European citizens enter Brazil visa-free, making the MigranteWeb route particularly attractive.

| Country | City | Address | eVisa | Appt. |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| France | Paris | 34 Cours Albert 1er, 75008 Paris | No eVisa | Book |
| Germany | Berlin | Wallstraße 57, 10179 Berlin | No eVisa | Book |
| Spain | Madrid | Calle de Fernando el Santo, 6, 28010 Madrid | No eVisa | Book |
| Portugal | Lisbon | Estrada das Laranjeiras 144, 1649-021 Lisbon | No eVisa | Book |
| Italy | Rome | Piazza Navona 14, 00186 Rome | No eVisa | Book |
| Netherlands | The Hague | Mauritskade 19, 2514 HD The Hague | No eVisa | Book |
| Switzerland | Bern | Monbijoustrasse 68, 3007 Bern | No eVisa | Book |
| Ireland | Dublin | Europa House, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2 | No eVisa | Book |
| Sweden | Stockholm | Eriksbergsgatan 4, 115 30 Stockholm | No eVisa | Book |

Countries not listed (e.g. Belgium, Austria, Norway) are typically served by the nearest mission. Honorary consulates may exist for document acceptance. Contact GetBrazilVisa for guidance on your specific country.

**European applicants:** Because EU, UK, Swiss, and Irish citizens all enter Brazil visa-free, the MigranteWeb in-country route is especially compelling: no health insurance requirement, no in-person appointment, and often faster processing. Many of our European clients fly to Brazil for 2–4 weeks and apply on arrival.

## South Africa, Middle East & Asia

Key missions for applicants in Africa, the Gulf, and Asia-Pacific.

| Region | City | Address | Notes | eVisa | Appt. |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| South Africa | Pretoria | 152 Dallas Avenue, Corobay Corner Building, 4th Floor, Waterkloof Glen, Pretoria | Serves all South Africa; no Johannesburg consulate | No eVisa | Book |
| South Africa | Cape Town | 7 Bree Street, Touchstone House, 9th Floor, Cape Town | — | No eVisa | Book |
| UAE | Abu Dhabi | Villa 29, Street 29, Section W-13, Khalidiyah, Abu Dhabi | — | eVisa required | Book |
| UAE | Dubai | Level 14, Boulevard Plaza Tower 1, Downtown Dubai | Serves all UAE | eVisa required | Book |
| Singapore | Singapore | 101 Thomson Road, United Square, #16-02/03, Singapore 307591 | — | eVisa required | Book |
| Japan | Tokyo | 2-11-12 Kita-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo 107-0061 | — | No eVisa | Book |
| India | New Delhi | 8 Aurangzeb Road, New Delhi 110011 | — | eVisa required | Book |

South Africa: No consulate in Johannesburg

The Brazilian consulate in South Africa for visa processing is in Pretoria, not Johannesburg. Cape Town has a secondary consulate. South African citizens are visa-free for Brazil and have strong access to the MigranteWeb route.

## How to Book Your Consulate Appointment

Brazilian consulates use their own booking systems. Most use the Itamaraty electronic scheduling portal (**ec-\[city\].itamaraty.gov.br**), while a small number outsource document collection to VFS Global. Appointment availability can change daily. Check the portal regularly.

1

Prepare your documents first

Do not book an appointment until all documents are ready. Appointments are non-refundable, and if you show up with incomplete paperwork, you will lose your slot and must rebook.

2

Book as early as possible

Appointment wait times range from 2 days (smaller missions) to 8+ weeks (New York, London, Miami in peak season). Book the moment your documents are ready.

3

Double-check your jurisdiction

You must apply at the consulate with jurisdiction over your place of residence. Bring proof of address (utility bill or lease) matching that jurisdiction.

4

Bring originals and certified copies

Most Brazilian consulates require original documents plus 2 certified copies. Apostille authentication is required for documents issued outside Brazil.

5

Pay the consular fee

The VITEM XIV consular fee ranges from ~$65 to $100 USD depending on the consulate. Check the specific consulate's website for exact amounts. Some require bank drafts, others accept credit cards.

6

Health insurance certificate

Bring your insurance certificate showing at least $30,000 USD in medical emergency coverage valid in Brazil. Most consulates require the original certificate plus a copy. SafetyWing, Allianz Care, and most international travel insurers are accepted.

### Standard VITEM XIV Document Checklist (Consulate Route)

Valid passport (6+ months remaining)

Completed VITEM XIV application form

2 passport-size photos (white background)

Proof of remote work / digital nomad income (3–6 months bank statements)

Employment contract or freelance client contracts

Health insurance certificate ($30k USD min. coverage)

Proof of residence in consulate's jurisdiction

Criminal background check (apostilled)

Consular fee payment receipt

Apostilled birth certificate (for dependents)

Requirements may vary by consulate. Always verify the current list on the specific consulate's official website before your appointment.
