# Can You Work for a Brazilian Company on the Digital Nomad Visa?

No. Brazil's VITEM XIV digital nomad visa is built around one rule: all of your income must come from outside Brazil. You can work remotely for a foreign employer or invoice foreign clients, but you cannot be hired by a Brazilian company, take on Brazilian clients, or provide paid services to anyone inside Brazil while on this visa. Doing so breaches the visa's terms and can lead to revocation. If your goal is to work for a Brazilian employer, the correct route is the VITEM V work visa, which requires that employer to sponsor you. Many nomads use the digital nomad visa first and then switch categories or pursue permanent residency, which removes the foreign-income restriction entirely.

## Allowed on the visa

-   • Remote employment for a company outside Brazil.
-   • Freelancing or consulting for foreign clients.
-   • Running an online business serving non-Brazilian customers.
-   • Getting paid into a foreign or Brazilian account, as long as the source is foreign.

## Not allowed

-   • Being hired or payrolled by a Brazilian company.
-   • Taking on Brazilian clients or local contracts.
-   • Providing paid in-person services inside Brazil.
-   • Any income whose source is a Brazilian entity.

## If you do want a Brazilian employer

Then the VITEM XIV is the wrong visa. The Brazilian company has to sponsor you on a [VITEM V work visa](/brazil-work-visa), which involves labour-ministry approval. The cleaner long game for many nomads is to enter on the digital nomad visa, build two years of residence, then move to [permanent residency](/brazil-permanent-residency-path) — which lifts the foreign-income rule and lets you work for anyone, including Brazilian employers.
