# Can You Open a Brazilian Bank Account as a Digital Nomad?

Yes, digital nomads can open a Brazilian bank account, and it gets much easier once you have residency. The two things you almost always need are a CPF (Brazil's tax ID, which you can request even before arriving) and proof of a Brazilian address. Traditional banks such as Itaú, Bradesco, and Banco do Brasil usually also want your CRNM residency card. The fastest route for most nomads is a digital bank: Nubank, Inter, and C6 typically open an account with just a CPF and an address, often within minutes in the app. Many nomads also keep a Wise account to hold and transfer reais cheaply without a local bank at all.

## What you need to open an account

-   A CPF — Brazil's individual taxpayer number, the single most important document for banking, rentals, and contracts.
-   Proof of a Brazilian address (a utility bill, rental contract, or a host's declaration).
-   Your CRNM residency card for most traditional banks; digital banks are often more flexible.
-   A Brazilian phone number, which most app-based banks use to verify you.

## The easiest routes

Digital banks (Nubank, Inter, C6) are the path of least resistance — they onboard in the app and rarely require a branch visit. If you only need to receive and spend reais without committing to a Brazilian bank, a **Wise** account lets you hold a local balance and transfer at near-interbank rates.
