# Free Brazil visa calculators and tools

The numbers people ask Camila for every week, worked out on the page: whether your income clears the bar, how many days you have left, what the whole thing costs, and when each deadline lands.

Ten free tools for moving to Brazil, built on the rules our case system applies and checked by **Camila Araujo Mota, OAB/CE 50.065**. The digital nomad visa needs **US$1,500 a month from abroad or US$18,000 in funds**. Visitors from the US, UK, Canada and Australia get **90 days per entry**, most Europeans **90 in any 180**, and an overstay costs **R$100 a day up to R$10,000**. After approval you register with the Federal Police within **90 days of entry** (consulate) or **30 days of DOU publication** (MigranteWeb). Filing inside Brazil, government fees come to about **US$70**.

## Is my income enough? US$1,500 in your currency

The digital nomad resolution sets the bar in US dollars: **US$1,500 a month** from abroad, or **US$18,000** in funds. If you are paid in euros or pounds, this is the number your statements have to clear.

Or savings in your name

The bar in EUR today: **EUR 1,348 a month**, or **EUR 16,172** in savings.

Your monthly income is about **US$1,670**, US$170 above the bar.

Income has to come through signed contracts with payers outside Brazil, and several contracts can be added together to reach the bar. Savings count only as cash in an account in your own name; shares and business accounts do not. ## How long can I stay in Brazil, and what does an overstay cost?

Brazil counts visitor days two ways depending on your passport. This uses the same table our case system uses, and it lets your entry stamp win when the stamp gives you less.

Visitor rule for this passport: **90 days per entry, extendable once to 180 days in 12 months**.

Days used on this entry: **41**.

Last day you can stay: **December 17, 2026** (49 days from today).

If you want the digital nomad visa without leaving, the MigranteWeb application has to be filed before that day.

The Federal Police can extend a visit once, up to 180 days in 12 months. On these dates that leaves at most 139 days of the yearly allowance, at the officer's discretion. Ask before your current stay ends.

Border officers grant what they grant. If your stamp shows a number, work from the stamp.

## When must I register with the Federal Police?

An approved residence is not usable until you register and give fingerprints. The clock depends on where you applied, and the two routes start it on different days.

Where was the visa or residence granted?

Date the approval was published in the DOU

You have **30 days** from the publication. Last day to register: **November 27, 2026**, 29 days from today.

We count the start date as day one, which lands a day earlier than counting from the next day. Book early anyway: in São Paulo the wait for a registration slot has run to about two months.

Which office to go to depends on your city: see [Federal Police offices by state](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-federal-police-offices). What to bring is in the [CRNM registration guide](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-digital-nomad-visa-rnm-federal-police).

## Which documents do I need, for my passport?

The list changes with where you file and which country's police records you need. This is the version Camila works from, built for the three nationalities we file most.

Nationality

United StatesUnited KingdomCanadaOther

Where you file

Inside BrazilConsulate abroad

Other countries you lived in (last 5 years)

1. 1

    Passport

Valid for at least six months beyond the day you enter Brazil.

2. 2

    FBI Identity History Summary

Issued by the FBI (federal, fingerprint-based). It has to be no more than 90 days old on the day you file. Apostilled by the US Department of State in Washington DC. A state police check is not accepted, and a state Secretary of State cannot apostille an FBI record. US embassies and consulates do not take fingerprints.

3. 3

    Birth certificate

Apostilled. On MigranteWeb this and the criminal record are the two documents that need an apostille and a sworn translation.

4. 4

    Proof of income or savings

Three recent months of statements and your signed contracts with payers outside Brazil, or one current statement showing US$18,000 in your own name. Statements and contracts are never apostilled.

5. 5

    Contract in Portuguese

The contract needs a Portuguese version. A reviewed machine translation is accepted; it does not need a sworn translator.

On MigranteWeb, the birth certificate and the criminal record go to a Brazilian sworn translator (tradutor juramentado). Bank statements are usually filed untranslated. An apostille never expires; the 90 days apply to the criminal record itself.

US citizens can plan the FBI timing with the [90-day FBI planner](https://getbrazilvisa.com/fbi-background-check-from-abroad), and the [apostille guide](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-digital-nomad-visa-apostille-guide) covers the rest.

## When should I renew my digital nomad residence?

The first authorization runs up to one year and can be renewed once, for the same period. File before it expires and you stay in regular status while the renewal is reviewed.

Expiry date of your current residence

The date on your CRNM or in the DOU publication.

Last day to file the renewal: **February 25, 2027** (120 days until expiry).

We suggest filing from **December 28, 2026**. That is our margin for a slow week or a missing document, not a legal deadline: RN 45/2021 sets no minimum lead time.

Order a fresh criminal record no earlier than **September 29, 2026**, so it is still under 90 days old when you file.

The renewal is the last one on this route: two years in total. To stay longer you move to another route, such as family, retirement or investment. See [the routes to permanent residency](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-permanent-residency-path).

The full process is in the [renewal guide](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-digital-nomad-visa-renewal).

Source: Resolução Normativa CNIg/MJSP nº 45/2021; GetBrazilVisa canonical rules, renewal (Camila Araujo Mota, 2026-10-01).

## When can I apply for Brazilian citizenship?

Ordinary naturalization needs four years of residence. The clock runs from the day you were granted residence for an indefinite term, so years on a temporary visa such as the digital nomad visa do not count toward it.

Date your indefinite residence was granted

Your CRNM says 'indeterminado' under validity of residence.

Married to a Brazilian, or parent of a Brazilian child?

NoYes

The spouse or partner must not be separated, in law or in fact.

With 4 years of residence required, you can file from **September 24, 2029**, 1061 days from today.

You also need to communicate in Portuguese and have no disqualifying conviction. Brazil does not ask you to give up your current nationality; check your own country's rules.

Marriage changes both the residence and the citizenship clock: see [residency by marriage](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-residency-by-marriage).

Source: Lei nº 13.445/2017, arts. 65 and 66; Decreto nº 9.199/2017 (residence for an indefinite term); UNHCR Brazil naturalization guide.

## When do I become a Brazilian tax resident?

A visitor or digital nomad becomes a tax resident on the **184th day** spent in Brazil within any 12 months. Partial days count as full days, and the window rolls; it is not the calendar year.

Date you arrived

Still in Brazil?

YesNo, I left

Days in Brazil in the last 12 months: **101**.

If you stay, you become a tax resident on **January 20, 2027**. From then Brazil taxes your worldwide income, and you file the annual return.

Holders of indefinite residence, or of a temporary visa tied to a Brazilian job, are residents from the day they arrive. This counter is for everyone else.

Monthly income tax once you are resident (2026 rules)

Taxable income per month, in reais

Table tax R$1,291.27, minus the 2026 reduction of R$0.00: about **R$1,291.27 a month**.

Since January 2026, income up to R$5,000 a month pays nothing and the reduction fades out at R$7,350. This is an estimate before deductions such as dependants or social security, and it is not tax advice. We are immigration lawyers; take the real numbers to a cross-border accountant.

## Which temporary residence route fits me?

Brazil has no single "temporary residence permit" you apply for. You qualify through a reason: remote work, retirement, family, investment or a Brazilian job. Pick the one that describes you.

I work remotely for payers abroadI am retired with a pensionMy partner or family is Brazilian or a residentI want to invest in BrazilA Brazilian company wants to hire me

## How these tools are built

Each figure comes from the law or the fee schedule cited under the tool, and the same figures run our own case system. The stay calculator uses the passport table that system uses when Camila answers a client, including the rule that your entry stamp wins when it gives you fewer days than the table.

Where we count days we count the first day as day one, because that lands earlier and an early deadline costs nothing. Where a number depends on something we cannot see, such as a consulate's own visa fee or the officer's decision on an extension, the tool says so instead of guessing.

None of this replaces a read of your own file. If a result surprises you, the free assessment puts it in front of a [Brazil immigration lawyer](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-immigration-lawyer) before anyone asks you to pay. The registration offices themselves are listed on [Federal Police offices by state](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-federal-police-offices), and the approval counts behind our numbers are in the [digital nomad visa statistics](https://getbrazilvisa.com/brazil-digital-nomad-visa-statistics), free to download.

## Frequently asked questions

### Are these Brazil visa calculators free?

Yes. Every tool on this page is free, needs no account and keeps your answers in your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to us unless you choose to start the assessment in our app.

### How much income do I need for the Brazil digital nomad visa?

US$1,500 a month from employers or clients outside Brazil, or US$18,000 in funds in an account in your own name. Either one is enough on its own. The bar is set in US dollars, so if you are paid in another currency the amount you need moves with the exchange rate.

### How long can I stay in Brazil as a tourist?

It depends on your passport. US, UK, Canadian and Australian passports get 90 days per entry, extendable once by the Federal Police up to 180 days in 12 months. Most European passports get 90 days in any 180-day period. When your entry stamp gives fewer days, the stamp is what counts.

### What is the overstay fine in Brazil?

R$100 for each day over your authorised stay, capped at R$10,000, under article 109 of the Migration Law. Pay it at the Federal Police before you leave or apply for anything, and do not fly back in with the fine still open.

### How long do I have to register with the Federal Police after approval?

If you applied at a consulate abroad, 90 days from the day you enter Brazil. If you applied inside Brazil through MigranteWeb, 30 days from the day the approval is published in the Diário Oficial da União. The two clocks start on different days, which is the most common way people miss the window.

### How much does the Brazil digital nomad visa cost in total?

Filed inside Brazil, the government fees are R$168.13 for the residence authorization and R$204.77 for the residence card, about US$70 together. Add the criminal record certificate, apostilles and sworn translations. US, Canadian and Australian citizens who enter as visitors first also pay the US$80.90 eVisa. On the consulate route the visa fee varies by consulate. GetBrazilVisa's Full Service is USD 599, paid once.

### Does the digital nomad visa count toward Brazilian citizenship?

No. Ordinary naturalization counts four years of residence for an indefinite term. The digital nomad visa is a temporary residence, so time on it does not count. The spouse or parent of a Brazilian can apply after one year of residence instead of four.

### When does a digital nomad become a Brazilian tax resident?

On the 184th day spent in Brazil within any 12-month period, counting partial days as full days. From then Brazil taxes worldwide income. Since January 2026, monthly taxable income up to R$5,000 pays no income tax.

### What is temporary residence in Brazil?

A residence authorization granted for a fixed term and for a stated reason, such as remote work, retirement, family reunion, investment or a job. There is no general temporary residence permit; you qualify through one of the reasons in article 14 of the Migration Law and the resolution that governs it.

### Who checks the rules these tools use?

Camila Araujo Mota, a Brazilian immigration lawyer enrolled with the OAB under OAB/CE 50.065. The figures come from the resolutions, the Migration Law and the fee schedules cited under each tool, and they match the rules her own case system applies.

these Brazil visa calculators free?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Yes. Every tool on this page is free, needs no account and keeps your answers in your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to us unless you choose to start the assessment in our app."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"How much income do I need for the Brazil digital nomad visa?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"US$1,500 a month from employers or clients outside Brazil, or US$18,000 in funds in an account in your own name. Either one is enough on its own. The bar is set in US dollars, so if you are paid in another currency the amount you need moves with the exchange rate."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"How long can I stay in Brazil as a tourist?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"It depends on your passport. US, UK, Canadian and Australian passports get 90 days per entry, extendable once by the Federal Police up to 180 days in 12 months. Most European passports get 90 days in any 180-day period. When your entry stamp gives fewer days, the stamp is what counts."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"What is the overstay fine in Brazil?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"R$100 for each day over your authorised stay, capped at R$10,000, under article 109 of the Migration Law. Pay it at the Federal Police before you leave or apply for anything, and do not fly back in with the fine still open."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"How long do I have to register with the Federal Police after approval?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"If you applied at a consulate abroad, 90 days from the day you enter Brazil. If you applied inside Brazil through MigranteWeb, 30 days from the day the approval is published in the Diário Oficial da União. The two clocks start on different days, which is the most common way people miss the window."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"How much does the Brazil digital nomad visa cost in total?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Filed inside Brazil, the government fees are R$168.13 for the residence authorization and R$204.77 for the residence card, about US$70 together. Add the criminal record certificate, apostilles and sworn translations. US, Canadian and Australian citizens who enter as visitors first also pay the US$80.90 eVisa. On the consulate route the visa fee varies by consulate. GetBrazilVisa's Full Service is USD 599, paid once."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Does the digital nomad visa count toward Brazilian citizenship?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"No. Ordinary naturalization counts four years of residence for an indefinite term. The digital nomad visa is a temporary residence, so time on it does not count. The spouse or parent of a Brazilian can apply after one year of residence instead of four."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"When does a digital nomad become a Brazilian tax resident?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"On the 184th day spent in Brazil within any 12-month period, counting partial days as full days. From then Brazil taxes worldwide income. Since January 2026, monthly taxable income up to R$5,000 pays no income tax."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"What is temporary residence in Brazil?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"A residence authorization granted for a fixed term and for a stated reason, such as remote work, retirement, family reunion, investment or a job. There is no general temporary residence permit; you qualify through one of the reasons in article 14 of the Migration Law and the resolution that governs it."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Who checks the rules these tools use?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Camila Araujo Mota, a Brazilian immigration lawyer enrolled with the OAB under OAB/CE 50.065. The figures come from the resolutions, the Migration Law and the fee schedules cited under each tool, and they match the rules her own case system applies."}}]}]}
